Our Rumpus Room

Here is a quick tour of our current living space...

We bought a bunch of lights this morning. Ended up going with 12V halogens, on gimbles. We'll see what the future holds for these little beasties.

I fly off to San Fransisco in the morning, for 5 days, for work. Fun fun.

Shiny Floor, Horizontal Walls

Some day-time pics of the house; notice all the elec cables we've been running. (And the new ladder.) All the power point cable has been run (three new runs- kitchen, rest of house, and future for back deck) and the all light switch lines are in place.

Plus we had the gyprock delivered this morning. 90 sheets, now living in our garage. If space was tight before, it's at a premium now.

Walls out, Floor up, Ceiling down

K, so some demolition pics:

We're getting stuck in... This is me with a new heat gun ("Do not use as a hair-dryer") and chisel, removing the tiles that the demolition fellas couldn't. Or wouldn't. They suggested the only thing we could do was remove and replace the floor-boards. John Paterson had the heat gun idea, and it worked a treat. Still hard work, but a heckovva lot cheaper and less hassle and stress than replacing some floor!

And right now, with John's kickstart again, and generous loan of tools and expertise, we're running the cables for our lights and power. It's great fun!!!

This house is BUSTED!

Had the demolition guys in this week.  Seems that they earnt their money; everything is nailed into hardwood, with way too many nails, which in turn are way too big for the job. So, overall, I'm fairly glad that we didn't waste our time and frustration (and danger, and cleaning) removing the wall and ceiling sheeting ourselves.

Everything was taken downstairs, and stored in either the garage (in boxes, until we're basically finished) or the rumpus (where we'll be living for the next little while). Needless to say, our living spaces are rather cramped right now, and when we move back home (we're at Mandy's place this week) it'll be interesting to see how we cope. Or rather, how I cope, I guess…

So now our upstairs is a skeleton.  All wall and ceiling sheeting is gone, as are the carpets. The majority of the kitchen tiling is gone, along with everything that makes a kitchen a kitchem, and ditto for bathroom, except bath and shower pan. And of course our new dunny is still in place, albeit a little lonely and exposed.

I'm very excited about how it's going to be.  Carmen went and visited our new kitchen (in the workshop) today, and so it's all getting very real...

Streeeeeeek - ooOOooff, thud!!

Cricket at the Gabba last night, rather exciting finish, and the aussies lost again.  I have nothing really to say about that.

But the interesting and funny thing was the way Andrew Symonds laid the shoulder into a streaker, and laid him flat. Check out the tubes (you know, youtube.com) for footage. Yes, already! How good are these internets??

T Minus 7 days

All else being equal, we're about 7 days from our renovation starting.

Demolition team is scheduled to come in and remove all wall sheeting, ceilings, carpets, kitchen, bathroom and built-ins on the 11th of this month. Prior to then, we must remove all light fittings, all switches and sockets, and render the house electrically safe.

After the demo team, we can run new elec and network/data/vision cables (computer and projector, etc), locate new sockets, lights and switches.

Plumber will come in and prep for new sink and future dishwasher.

Then we can start the gyprocking, in the kitchen initially, and plastering.  When that is done, then hopefully the new kitchen will arrive and we can install that (ourselves).

Just don't ask what the timeline is, beyond the end of next week…

Ok, deep breath, here we go...
